My Spirit with the batwing at the lake

I put a Memphis Shades batwing on my '07 Spirit myself. Highway wind used to beat me up by the time I got off a shift. Now it doesn't. Here's what to order and how it goes on.

Order the right parts

Memphis Shades sells the fairing and the mount separately. You need both.

What's in the box

Tools you will likely need

Metric sockets and wrenches, a torque wrench, a JIS screwdriver, blue thread locker, zip ties, and a moving blanket to protect the tank.

Install, step by step

Follow the printed Memphis Shades instructions for your kit. These are the basic steps in order.

  1. Cover the tank and front fender.
  2. Mount the anchoring hardware to the fork per the kit instructions. Snug it down, but don't torque it yet.
  3. Bolt the mounting plates to the fairing.
  4. With a helper, hang the fairing on the anchors and engage the Trigger-Locks.
  5. Set the angle, check that the bars turn lock to lock with no contact on the cables or tank, then torque everything.
  6. Mount the windshield to the fairing.
  7. Check the headlight aim and confirm the turn signals and horn work.

Before: stock Spirit by the fence

After: batwing on, low sun

Is it worth it?

Trigger-Lock means the fairing comes off without tools. That means you can pull it for hot local rides and put it back on for road trips.
